Lucy - Original Design

This is a really early concept drawing of Lucy. Initially she was 5'11" tall, and had a much more spunky, almost bubbly personality that I realized would be extremely annoying (to me, at least). She also started out as an air courier, but that was another idea I scrapped; I wanted her to be technically competent, and the idea of a dedicated aerial version of a bike messenger wasn't interesting enough.

I like stories where characters learn and grow and develop new skills, but I can't stand the generic teenage douchebag archetype (think Luke Skywalker, the kid from Eragon, or any anime ever made that was geared towards teens, for example). I want my characters to have more depth too them, and not be a generic place holder for the reader to insert themselves into.

She evolved into a 5'4" sarcastic tomboy mechanic after this early drawing, once I took a few months of thinking about her history and back story and really hatched the idea for the whole Steamvolt thing.
